To learn about animals from around the world, head to the Santa Ana Zoo. An easy drive from our Irvine apartments, this attraction spans 20 acres and strives to "empower the community to save wildlife and wild spaces." Here is some of what you can discover during your visit:
Golden Lion Tamarin
Small South American primates, golden lion tamarins are striking animals with reddish-gold coats and long manes. These animals live in the Atlantic coastal region of southeastern Brazil. They feed on fruit, insects, and small invertebrates and use their long, slender fingers to reach into small crevices in search of prey. Golden lion tamarins are endangered. They were once down to 200 individuals in the wild. Today, there are about 2,500 due to extensive conservation efforts.
Known for their strong necks, Trumpeter hornbills call central and southeastern Africa home. They nest in rock caves and tree cavities. Their chicks are kept close, and these birds feast on fruit, insects, and small mammals. Trumpeter hornbills are vocal birds, and their most common vocalization sounds like a crying baby.
Fifty Monkeys Ferris Wheel
Take a ride on the Fifty Monkeys Ferris Wheel. Towering high above the exhibits, it highlights the zoo's commitment to highlighting their Fifty Monkey heritage, with each gondola featuring a unique endangered monkey. On this ride, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the zoo while looking at educational graphics.
The zoo is open daily (except on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day) from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The last admission is at 4:00 p.m. After exploring the zoo, curl up at home with a great read. Local bookstores offer everything from mysteries to historical fiction novels. Finally, to call Fusion home, please contact us.
