Explore the Trails at Camelback Mountain

Spend a Fun-Filled Day at Camelback Mountain

Not far from our Gilbert apartments is one of Arizona's most popular attractions. We are talking about Camelback Mountain, and it draws thousands of visitors every year who come to discover wildlife and hike the challenging trails. Here is some of what you can enjoy during your visit:

Echo Canyon Trail

Lace up your hiking boots on the Echo Canyon Trail. Rated extremely difficult, it rewards explorers with stunning 360-degree views from the summit. Along the way, you will find strenuous climbs and sections of hand-over-hand climbing. Roundtrip, this exciting adventure takes two to three hours to complete. Don't forget your phone to capture the breathtaking scenery.

Chuckwalla Lizard

While the chuckwalla lizards may look a little mean, they're completely harmless. These animals are native to southwest desert regions and are typically spotted by canyon walls and rock piles. Chuckwalla lizards grow up to 18 inches in length. They're the second largest lizards in the United States, and at about two pounds, males are larger than females.

Ladder-Backed Woodpecker

Once known as cactus woodpeckers, ladder-backed woodpeckers are small black-and-white birds. They have square heads, short necks, and stiff tails. Males are identified by their red crowns, while females boast black-ish ones. These birds prefer to stay hidden in vegetation, making it difficult for birdwatchers to spot them. Listen for their "peek" calls.

Desert Tortoise

Watch for Camelback mountain's slowest-moving resident. Desert tortoises spend about 95 percent of their lives in burrows. They live between 60 and 80 years, and adults are well-protected against predators. However, these creatures are a threatened species due to disease and habitat loss.

After exploring Camelback Mountain, enjoy some chicken and waffles at a Gilbert restaurant. For more information on calling Redstone at SanTan Village home, please contact us. Our team will gladly discuss everything our apartments in Gilbert have to offer.
