A view of Lake Havasu City

It’s summertime. Therefore, the heat is on. Take a break from the “every day” and escape the heat at one of these inviting weekend getaways not far from Gilbert, Arizona. Call it a staycation. Call it a vacation. Whatever it is, take reprieve in a new setting away from home for the weekend.

Lake Havasu City

There’s something for everyone at Lake Havasu City, and especially for the outdoor lovers. Cool off at the many beaches, parks, or even the aquatic center in town. Body Beach is a great place to relax and enjoy the sun’s rays, while being able to take a dip in the crystal blue waters once you’re hot. Another favorite is Rotary Community Park, with clean sandy beaches and beautiful blue water. Grab a spot under a palm tree and bliss out at your “tropical” Arizona escape.

Zen out with a trip to Sedona, known for its high-end spas, spiritual atmosphere, and stunning red rock views. If you’re into the spiritual vibe, you’ll want to check out the “vortexes” throughout town, or unmarked points where locals tap into the spiritual energy of the universe. Looking to veg out by a pool? You’re in luck, because Sedona has some of the top resorts in the country. Whether a spa day fits the bill, or a swim in the resort’s swimming pool is calling, Sedona is an excellent option for a weekend cool-down getaway.

Flagstaff is known for many things, but one thing that most Arizonians know and cherish is that the temps in Flagstaff are notoriously cooler than the Valley. Visit Humphreys Peak, which comes in at the highest natural elevation in Arizona – a whopping 12,637 feet. If hiking is your thing, the Humphreys trail starts off easy, and ends with a challenging journey into the forest. With plenty of shopping malls, dining options, and entertainment, a trip to Flagstaff is always a good idea.

Grand Canyon National Park

A visit to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon is a must-see during the summer months. Temps are always cooler than the heat in the Valley, and the views and sights you’ll take in will easily take your mind off of the summer heat. On the South Rim, make sure to check out Grand Canyon Village, which features many delicious restaurants and bars.

Don’t let the heat bring you down. Get out of town and escape the Gilbert heat at one of these weekend getaways. For more travel tips and lists, visit our blog at Redstone at SanTan Village.
