When people hear the term “botanical garden,” many assume the experience will be a simple walk through a beautiful landscape and little more. You might be surprised to find that there is so much more to explore. Phoenix’s Desert Botanical Garden offers unique and incredible experiences for visitors.
Dog Days
The Desert Botanical Garden sets aside Saturday mornings for dog lovers. From 6:00 to 9:00 AM, you can stroll the beautiful paths with your furry friend and even enjoy a light (human) breakfast at the Patio Café. And yes, you can bring your pet into The Garden Shop to do a little browsing. This is a great way to enjoy a relaxing, beautiful morning with your four-legged companion.
Art Exhibits
That’s right, you’ll not only get to enjoy local plant and wildlife, but art, as well. Different exhibits are featured each year from artists around the world. The latest installation, Wild Rising, is a collection of more than 1,000 animal sculptures made from recycled plastic.
Educational & Professional Opportunities
The botanical garden offers a unique educational opportunity – The Desert Landscape School. Whether you are a homeowner looking to design a sustainable yard and garden in this desert ecosystem, or you work as a landscaper or developer, you can earn a certificate for completing all six classes in this series. It’ll give you the expertise you need, professional credibility, and a built-in community to network with.
Gardening Advice
If you love gardening, but need a few pointers, volunteers are ready to help you on scheduled weekends during the garden’s Ask a Gardener events. They’re always happy to help a fellow plant lover.
Drinks & Music
The botanical garden features many fun events during the year, including relaxing evenings with music and drinks. Sonoran Sippin’, which runs through September, features different drinks and themes and offers a fun way to end your week.
