With warm weather year-round and ample opportunity for outdoor recreation, Central Arizona is the place to be for pet lovers. Here are four ways to get out and have fun with your pup in and around Gilbert.
Take a Hike
Find a cool window in the weather forecast (by Arizona standards, anyway) and take a hike! Our scenic desert landscape makes a great backdrop. The trails at San Tan Mountain Regional Park, Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch, or Lost Dutchman State Park in the Superstition Mountains are a few fantastic options. But there are countless scenic trails in our area. Wherever you go, be sure to carry plenty of water – for you and your pup! And be sure to check out these tips for hiking in the Arizona heat.
Play at the Dog Park
At Redstone at SanTan Village, we’re blessed to live less than 2 miles away from two different dog parks. Both Cosmo Dog Park and Dog Park at Crossroads are popular among pet owners. If your dog likes to swim, Cosmo’s pond and beach will be a big hit.
Building on the water theme, paddleboarding is a pet-friendly activity many pups love. It might take some time to get them comfortable with the sport, but once they pick it up, it’s a great bonding opportunity. Check out this list for some spots to launch your paddleboard in the greater Phoenix area.
Retail Therapy, Canine Style
Pamper your pup with a little retail therapy. Stock up on toys, treats, and more at local shops! Gilbert and surrounding cities are home to a number of pet shops, including Market Street Pet Depot and Pet Planet, a smaller chain with stores in Arizona and Canada. There are also chain store staples like PetSmart and Petco. All offer curbside pickup, so if you don’t feel comfortable venturing inside, no worries!
