Legend has it that in England way back in 1762, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, was a notorious gambler and began taking meals between two pieces of bread so he wouldn't have to leave the gaming table. Thus, the sandwich was born. Now, it's safe to assume that in the 30,000 years that bread has been around, someone thought to place a produce and/or meat product between two pieces of it, but John was an Earl, so the phenomenon got named after him. Apologies to the prehistoric person who did it first. Let's call them Monty. Sorry, Monty. Regardless of who gets the credit, sandwiches (or Montys, if you prefer) are one of the most versatile meals in the world. From a classic ham and cheese to a steaming hot meatball sub, the options are endless. So for you Monty enthusiasts out there (it's going to catch on – watch), here are four of the best sandwich spots in and around Chandler.
