It’s 2021! We made it! And with a new year comes those New Year’s resolutions. Now to be clear, this isn’t going to be one of those blogs about getting in shape or eating better, which you should. That’s a good thing. But this blog isn't going to be about all that. This blog is about getting outside. Due to the global pandemic, many of us have spent an above-average amount of time indoors. And while Olympus Steelyard’s Technogym/fitness center will certainly keep you active and in shape, there is something to be said about nature being good for the soul. So, with that in mind, here are three walking and hiking trails around Chandler you should mosey on through.
Canal Trails
Located about 7 miles north of Olympus Steelyard, this collection of biking and walking trails along and around the western canal provide plenty of room for social distancing. The views along the trails consist of cool rock formations and spatterings of lush greenery. There’s even some great fishing spots, too, so don’t forget your pole.
Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch
When it comes to the visuals, Riparian Preserve and Water Ranch may be the winner on this list. With lush landscapes, several walking trails, countless species of birds, six ponds, and an observatory with a very, very big telescope (closed temporarily but hopefully opening soon), this spot on our list lets you get to commune with nature and the stars. Not a bad combo.
Discovery District Park
The last entry on this list is a location with an emphasis on social(ly distant) interactions. Discovery District Park is one of the more popular destinations for people to take advantage of the various walking trails as well as the various picnic areas, benches, walking/jogging/biking trails, basketball courts, two lakes with good fishing, even a butterfly garden! All of this on 48 acres of land, plenty of space to meet up with family and friends responsibly.
